milestones and other thoughts...

i'm not sure why the blogging has been sparse lately; sophia's in bed by 6:30 (whoo hoo! check out Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child if you want the how-to), so i really have no excuses. maybe time on facebook has become a substitute? ;)

anywho, here are some updates since I last wrote something. we have been teething, sleeping through the night, and today - babbling! (sophia, not me - ha! although i guess i've been sleeping through the night now too. yesssssssss.) So, i know it's not super crucial the exact time babbling happens, but as a former student and teacher of all things language development, i was pretty stoked. of course the digital camera was with josh, but i got some low quality vids on my phone, and even managed to get her to do it while i was on the phone with josh so he could hear it.

hope everyone is enjoying their fall!

That's so exciting! Way to go, Miss Sophia!! :)
I'm almost a little afraid to ask, but does the 6:30 bedtime mean an equally early rise time? Lily goes down about 8 and gets up around 7:30... and I don't know if I could take it any earlier in the morning (E's up at 7)... :p

kinda sorta.. :P most days she gets up at 7, although this morning she decided to get up at 6! aaaah! i think that was teething though - she woke up at 1 am as well, and she's been sleeping through the night pretty well.

so, experienced mama....do you have any teething tips? she's working on the second one on the bottom, and some days are better than others. orajel helps for a little while, and i hate to give her too much tylenol. the teething rings in the fridge are just ok - she's not sure about the cold feeling on her hands when she holds them! ha! any advice is always welcome. :)

That's a tough one... we use Bexident Bebe, a tube of baby Orajel-type stuff that Sophia (old prof. Sophia, that is) brought back for me from Cyprus, but the writing on the tube is literally all in Greek other than the brand so I have no idea where to get it Stateside... It doesn't burn like the Orajel does at first- Elijah wouldn't take Orajel because of the burn (we never tried w/Lily). We also use Zwieback toast (with strict supervision when they're teeny tiny, or sometimes I would even hold it for them) and Biter biscuits, although the latter are TERRIBLY messy and you have to clean baby up ASAP, otherwise I swear the stuff dries into concrete!
I've also learned that baby Motrin tends to be better at handling gum pain than baby Tylenol, and it lasts longer dose-for-dose. I'll send you more this-worked-for-us-but-take-with-a-grain-of-salts as I remember them, but really prayer is the only thing that gets me (and the kids too, I guess ;) ) through teething spells.

Oh! I just remembered one of our favorites- stick a jar of baby food in the fridge and serve it really cold- no nuking or anything. The coolness of it seems to have a slight numbing effect and makes consequent feedings (for us, from the bottle... but might help otherwise, too) less painful if feedings are an issue. Neither of mine would take cold formula, but the cold mush before the warm bottle has worked for both E&L.
I'm praying for you guys!! I know how tough this is. They say it gets better after the first few teeth are in, so there's a little light at the end of the tunnel for you! :)

Yes if the truth be known, in some moments I can reveal that I jibe consent to with you, but you may be inasmuch as other options.
