Pastor Mark Driscoll's take on health and wealth teaching

" 'Prosperity theology' is that God is a pinata, that faith is a whacking stick, and if you 'claim the promises', then an Escalade with rims, and a flat screen tv, and a summer home, and a grill for your teeth just fall out of heaven...and then you can walk around praising God." Ha!

Wow... scary thing is, I think I've actually been in a church during a sermon where pretty much that same thing was preached... seriously. :( That was the same morning, during church-searching after a move a few years ago, when the pastor said that if your prayers aren't answered it's becuase you're not praying to the REAL Jesus (i.e. when you say "in Christ's name", etc.), so until you pray to the REAL Jesus (his idea of the Lord, of course), your prayers won't be answered... and if you pray to the REAL Jesus, your prayers will always be answered just the way you want them.
Zach and I left horrified (whatever happened to just worshiping, and oh I dunno, trusting God?), and the folks who had visited with us thought it was great... EEEEK!
